Obi Wan at my table

Little Obi Wan

Baby Kingfisher

Hello chaps!

I'd like to introduce you to Obi Wan, the first bird to join us at my table. He's a juvenile silvereye (aka waxeye). He was literally dragged in by the cat, but we're happy to report that he escaped unscathed and is now living out his teen years at a bird rescue facility. Once his tail has fully developed he'll be able to fly, but until then he'll enjoy room service and a warm incubator.

For my New Zealand friends, if you ever find a live baby or injured bird and don't know what to do, just go to the Bird Rescue NZ website and give your local centre a call. While visiting the Waikato centre to drop Obi off, we also met five baby kingfishers, two baby blackbirds, four baby pukeko, and one morepork. Awesome awesome place!

Till next time,
Carisse & Obi
